Today's Dogg By Guy(I love my Grandma) Gilchrist March 9th, 2010

This post is dedicated to my Step father's Mama. I called her "Mama". She was Italian, and a Farmgirl from the old country. Very practical lady. No one ever went unfed.
She always had Pasta Fazool, Chicken LaCatetore,Sausage and Peppers...on the stove. You brought the mail...here's a sandwich. 4:30 in the morning..the paperboy brings the paper to her "front Stoop"..he gets a sandwich. She lived through the "Great Depression". She saved the family Business with her common sense. No one went hungry.
A dime was a dime. Alot of money. No credit for Mama. Cash on the barrelhead. She would go into barber shops and give pennies for the old comic books for me to read. A dime was a dime. She loved all animals. Dogs, cats.
She would be proud I am taking care of the street cat with no name...our stray here. She's lived on this street for 12 years, close as anyone can tell. Our neighbors named her  KitKat. So, that's the name of the cat with no name. Busted up, but such a sweet sweet cat. Paying for the Vet to sew her up after she got badly injured in a fight this weekend. Now, Mama would have taken her to the Vet and bought a dollars' worth of medicine...but probably sewed her up herself, Mama. She was a farm girl.
Could plow a field all by herself at 76 if we let her.
Once she got the cat home, Then she would make wonderful food and put the medicine in the food for the cat to get better.
Mama  liked Rin-Tin-Tin and Lassie, and Cowboys. She always paid the barber a little extra cent or so for the dog and cowboy comics she knew I loved so much. I loved my Mama.  She's been cooking for The Angels for over 30 years now. I drew this one though....and read a few Rinty comics...fed the cat....and missed her more than usual today.
We'll be unveiling our brand new website for TODAY'S DOGG in the next day or so! Sherry Anderson, web wizard...has been working a full week getting all the stuff moved...and adding searchable archives and all kinds of cool stuff. PLEASE tell everyone you know to sign on and follow us! We are building a company here with a dedicated portion of every dime we make going straight to Animal and Humane Services. If you think of a way to help...let me know. I can't thank Sherry enough. She is the best at all she does and I am blessed to have her help. Her company is called Anderson Web Design, and you should hire her, too.
BTW, I sign all the stuff at my store at http://www.guygilchristmusic.com/
You should, could, maybe  buy stuff. A dime's a dime.

A Wonderful Day With Kids And Dogs In Tennessee! February 27th, 2010

My thanks to George Wallace, who took these photos and was the event photographer. I had a great time drawing pictures of DOGGS, Nancy, Bugs Bunny and so many other cartoons I hadn't even THOUGHT about drawing until a child asks me to....handing out gorgeous photos of Rin-Tin-Tin to some of his legion of fans....meeting so many nice people, making a nice piece of change to support the great work of New Leash On Life...and hanging out with Jessie. That dog that had me wrapped around his paw today.

TODAY'S DOGG By Guy Gilchrist February 23, 2010

A little racing action for you today. As you can see, our Dogg doesn't play favorites.
NASCAR has started....the Sundays are exciting! I'm looking forward to getting over to Bristol this year!
I've been enjoying doing the theme weeks, and I hope you've been digging em , too. I'm going to run a week of non-theme ones...one shots...because I have so many!!!
I'm starting to get orders to run Today's Dogg in some newspapers! I'll let you know which ones as soon as the ink is dry on the Alpo Bag. That's how we write up our contracts here. Copule of pieces of jerky...shake hands..and to get realllll official.... sign an Alpo bag. Lawyers. Humph.
Starting from the first dollar we make, selling the comic any way we can...to websites, newspapers, anywhere..a percentage will go to helping our Dogs. That's how this operation  works. Don't get me wrong......I love money. Love it. So does my agent...and so do all the companies and individuals that we will work with. Hecck, if YOU didn't love money...you'd be paypaling me a hundred bucks a chuckle just because the comic is so funny! BTW..That works for me. Just throwin' that out there. I also accept cash. But...I also LOVE animals. Dogs, Cats. All creatures great and small. I do. And that is what this is all about.
I've made alot of product for the biggest names in Show Biz, and I love doing it. But...this one is different. I want this HUGE! And with a HUGE Charitable Heart. So far...I have heard from many folks who need money....and only a couple offering to help us MAKE some. I know. That's how this goes. I'll help all I can...and i can use your help, too.
So..if you have a product line, or anything you want to ask me about with Today's Dogg...I'm listening. If you have a little community paper, and ask them to run it...cool. You can contact me right through this email at the blog. Look...I 've been with the biggest character licensing in the world. I know how it works...and I want to do something special here. Man! I love drawing DOGGS!
And thank you, (speaking of biggest licensing characters in the world....and most loved.).. thank you to Rin-Tin-Tin for your endorsement!!! Rinny: I'm 10 with a bowl of cereal in front of our old black and white Admiral...on a braided rug....with a comic book, and a Tony The Tiger spoon...and I'm eating those big Shredded Wheat...and mom warmed the milk and put sugar on the top...you, and Bullet...and Roy, The Lone Ranger and Sky King and Lassie....I loved you. I still do. BTW...The current Official Rin-Tin-Tin, trained and bred by Miss Daphne,(The Bloodline is strong and so, so furry, friendly, and everything you ever dreamed Rinny was...) and I will be doing a joint appearance in Danville, Ill! April 10th! How cool is that? I am so blessed. More on that later...
The weirdness of  life is a beautiful, strange and delicate thing. Who knew? Dog Cartoons...?

We Have Been Endorsed By Rin-Tin-Tin. For Real.

You know...sometimes it's okay, I have learned over my life....to smile and just accept something....a gift...an award...a compliment....and feel good about it. I KNOW!!! That goes against all our upbringing...guilt...why me...don't pick me...etc. But ..this is cool. and I'm going to not only enjoy it. myself...I'm going to aw shucks a little...and I am going to share it with all of you who love dogs. And love TODAY'S DOGG.  Because you are the ones who keep telling me to keep writing and drawing these.
TODAY'S DOGG HAS BEEN ENDORSED BY RIN-TIN-TIN ! CHECK THIS OUT...

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.I'm a child of the 50s and 60s and grew up loving Rin-Tin-Tin and all he embodied.....Courage. True Blue Loyalty. Faithfulness. You have made my day...I am usually the one in charge of  helping folks smile...with my cartoons and all....but...Miss Daphne, the Owner and Breeder...and Rinty.....you gave me the smile this time.

More of The DOGG Winter Games!

Style points?

I'm enjoying the games! I pretty much keep them on most of the day as I am inking my comics. I watch whatever events are on...and pull for the USA. I also pull for Canada quite a bit ( if the USA is out of it) because my girlfriend's family are Canadians, eh. I, of course, spend my mornings in the quiet....the quieter, the better....as that is when I get my writing for Today's Dogg, Nancy, and song ideas going.....hopefully! You never know. Ideas come ,go,and fade away so quickly....I have to catch them when I can. I am so grateful that you are enjoying the DOGG ! We have over 2100 Fans on FB already...and Strum Magazine is featuring us on their homepage! We have our first newspapers asking to run TD! We are interested in any publication electronic or print that would like to run Today's Dogg. It is affordable, and easy to get in on. Email us @ guy@todaysdogg.com

and we'll get you all woofed up!

You are making this creation so, so cool to do. Please subscribe and Bookmark us! Oh....and here's Bullet The Wonder Dog, and my hero...Roy Rogers.

TODAY'S DOG By Guy(Abbott and Costello))Gilchrist February 12,2010

Oh.........don't get on me for being UN-pc....as we say here in Doggieland. I hope you realize, in case you  are offended by this gag, you will understand that in due time,I'm sure I will offend pretty much everybody. The joke wasn't about drinking...it was HOW could I get a doggie drivin' and the guy in the sidecar!?? I thought about sidecars...and Lou and Bud...and Stan and Ollie.....all those SIDE CAR gags,.....man..........I miss those guys.
Now..that stuff was funny. I don't care who you are.....and today's song for the road.........
"I pulled into Nazareth, was feelin' about half past dead;
I just need some place where I can lay my head.
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No!", was all he said.

Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free;
Take a load off Fanny, And (and) (and) you can put the load right on me.

I picked up my bag, I went lookin' for a place to hide;
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side.
I said, "Hey, Carmen, come on, let's go downtown."
She said, "I gotta go, but m'friend can stick around."

(Chorus)

Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke, and Luke's waitin' on the Judgement Day.
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, woncha stay an' keep Anna Lee company?"

(Chorus)

Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog.
He said, "I will fix your rack, if you'll take Jack, my dog."
I said, "Wait a minute, Chester, you know I'm a peaceful man."
He said, "That's okay, boy, won't you feed him when you can."
......................wanna finish it???? God bless you. I'm going to be posting two on Friday for the weekend. I've got a singing gig in Tampa. God bless you, all you do, our dogs, and all we do for them because of all they are to us. Oh...did you say HI to Buddy?
Guy.

TODAY'S DOG By Guy Gilchrist February 3, 2010 Wednesday COLOR!

You know....you just can't take some dogs to the golf course with you, can ya?

Hey, I'm sorry if the email subscribers got messed up emails this morning! I am finding that if I post more than once sometimes the email prototype template they give us can't hold all the art.

I'll try and find a way around it.....we're always working hard to get this ol' caveman into the groove of how to do all this webstuff. I'm tryin! Extra special color one today! Colored by Laura Tisdel. Honk if you like color!

You folks on Facebook are just blowing me away. We have way over 1700 fans of Today's Dog By Guy Gilchrist ...and we got over 150 in 24 hours! WOW! Thank you so much. Spread the word, if you like what I'm doing. Please sign up for us on FB, Twitter, and email. It helps. We're working on making phone Apps better, too. HA! The Caveman just typed "phone apps".

I added some new links over on the links on the left there. Check them out when you can.

Below, I've added a link to a cool story about a self portrait found of Cash Coolidge...the man that painted those original Poker Playing Dogs...way back in the early 1900s. I also added his short Wikipedia bio on the left in the links. What great hysterical paintings those are. We had one hanging on the wall next to the old freezer in our garage, when I was growing up. I used to take it down and try to copy his paintings in pencil.

Today's Dog by Guy Gilchrist February 1, 2010

Ahhhh!!!! The Author's Book Signing! If only I had THAT many customers standing in line for me whenever I do one of those. I guess this one is such a favorite because of all those nights and days on the road doing these book tours.
I had a great weekend in Nashville. Two good new friends of mine, one that has become a Mentor to me in songwriting, Glenn Douglas Tubb, and his girl,Dottie Snow got married. Glenn is not a spring chicken..........heck....not even a summer rooster. He's one Autumn Awesome Dude, though.Glenn had his first hit record in 1948...if that tells you anything. Glenn wrote a ton of hits. "Home Of The Blues" for Johnny Cash, and Co-wrote "Forsaken and Alone" with Hank Williams. Yes. THAT Hank Williams....many years ago. "Skip A Rope" is his real biggie. He is so, so full of life, love and fun...what a man.
Dottie, her parents both Grand Ole Opry Members, has had a wonderful, long life as a Country and Gospel Singer, and is also a Minister. Well, Joanne Cash, Johnny Cash's  sister, did the marrying...and it was truly beautiful. Glenn was misty almost the whole way through, he was so filled with emotion. And this is one tough, cool dude, man. It was something. It really was a precious way for me to cap off my 53rd birthday. Really, really something. I'll never forget it. Life is for living. All the way.

I'm writing songs with Glenn, and am so priviledged to have him for a buddy. Hey...met Alice Cooper's Lead Guitarist there. He's Buds with Glenn too. Nashville's a cool town.
Oh, saw "Edge Of Darkness" with Mel Gibson for my "Birthday Date' after a dinner of awesome Catfish. It's a really good movie....really good. If you like thrillers...you'll like this one...oh, and everyone loves the catfish at John A's.
This all in a week when I got to see Kris Kristofferson at the Ryman, and then crack him up with a funny song later on after the show. MAN. Blessed week. And all your letters and emails and FB posts? So cool. Thank you so much.
OH! And it's Monday! That means 24 for us Jack addicts~! So, I'll REpost the Jack cartoon as a bonus, in case you didn't get it and send it to all your 24 pals the first time!
Hope you're subscribing to Today's Dog!! Tellin your friends, your enemies...your strangers off the street! 1600 folks on FB in a week and a half, and we have about 100 or so folks following here on the blogsite. ...plus a mess more subscribing on the RSS feed, I believe.
BTW, I still have some of those books(mine) not HIS on hand over at my store at my Music website. I'll sign em and mail em to ya and everything...all you gotta do is pay for em.
Here's to love and laughs with our pets, our friends, ourselves!

Remembering Jim Henson and the time I drew the LOVE Stamp envelope with ROWLF.

Every once in a while, someone commissions me to do something special. Here is a drawing I did recently for a fan of The Muppets who had one of those "First Day" envelopes I drew in 1986 for the LOVE stamp, and also an envelope honoring Jim Henson, my old friend and boss, from just a couple years ago.. I hadn't drawn Scooter or Floyd since probably 1986 when the strip retired. FUN! I did the drawing with black ink and my brush, and used colored pencils to add the color. I remember the First Day event was in NYC, on my 29th birthday. I'll post a picture of Jim with ROWLF as the PostMaster. Even before I was writing and drawing the Muppets strip with my brother, Rowlf was my favorite Muppet. He was the first "famous" Muppet....from back in the mid sixties when he was on the Jimmy Dean Show.

Jim and Rowlf at The Post office Event and Jim and me....wow. Long, long time ago.
